Runaway Bay Jamaica

Posted On 2012-02-11 , 8:41 PM

Winter Holiday 2012 is almost here. Spent the day buying new luggage!! Now I have to start organizing my clothes - trying on summer stuff in my closet and seeing what fits and what does not - and what I will have to buy.

Have to organize the ride to the airport too!

Jamaica looks awesome - I have never been there so am looking very forward to it!

This winter has not been too bad so far but I am still longing for the warmth of the sun and the sand and turquoise sea!

Talk soon!

Winter is Here!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Well we got through Christmas without hardly any winter but have started the New Year off in full winter mode as evidenced by the freezing rain a couple of days ago and the "deep freeze" and blustery weather that is happening now.  Our group of "Travelling Friends" were together for New Years Eve and all we could talk about was Jamaica.  We are looking forwarding to it so much that that thought alone will carry us through the winter until the date of our trip.

One of the couples in our group will not be travelling with us this year and in fact went to Jamaica for Christmas but arrived back in time to toast in the New Yeaar with us and get our head filled with all sorts of great Jamaican stories.

Jamaica seems to be the "popular" spot this year as I know several different groups of people that are going there or have just got back.  Other years the price of Jamaica seemed out of our reach.  I have loved every place I have travelled to so I am sure that this trip will be no different.

Happy Travelling Everyone!

Winter 2012 Part Two

Posted On 2011-12-05 , 5:48 PM

Well, it has been a long while since I updated you on our travel plans for Winter 2012.  All things have changed.  We are going somewhere where our Travelling Friends have not been before.   We have always shyed away from it for one reason or another and but most notably the cost.  This year however, the prices were in line with Mexico, Dominican and Cuba.  We are going to Runaway Bay, Jamaica.  We are definitely looking forward to it.  The reviews are mostly positive so I know we shall have a great time.  As usual, I cannot wait!!  It is something to get us through the next few weeks and months of SNOW!!!

Travel Plans for Winter of 2012

Posted On 2011-06-26 , 3:27 PM

The weather is finally starting to feel like summer here in Ontario. The farthest thing from most people's minds is a "winter holiday". However, my group of "travelling friends" are just start to throw out some ideas of places to visit next winter. The hot weather here makes us think of our winter vacations in tropical paradises and it all starts from there.

Every year I say I want to go to Aruba but that option is always a fair bit more costly than our group is wanting to spend or rather can afford to spend so it usually almost automatically gets voted down. Maybe one day!

Another option that was mentioned by our trusty travel agent - who also is part of our group, along with her husband - was Los Cabos, Mexico. It does look awesome so we will definitely have to do some research.

A few years ago, we went to Curacao. We really liked it there and that was another option that we discussed - the possibility of returning there. Last year was the first time that our “group” did a repeat vacation and we were not disappointed. We stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe Coba in the Mayan Riviera. It is such a huge resort but is so beautiful that you do not even really care if you left the resort.

In Curacao we stayed at the Super Club Breezes and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The Breezes was the only all inclusive resort on the island. We also enjoyed the beautiful Town of Willemstad with is colourful houses and great shops and restaurants.

In any event, the next couple of months will involve a lot of researching online and looking through brochures. The first few picks are usually heavily scrutinized by our members with one or two of the resorts being vetoed because of bad reviews.

Stayed tuned for further developments.

Spring Getaways

Friends of mine are leaving on Monday for the Bahamas for a week. I was not envious of them yesterday as it was so nice here and felt like summer.  Today it has done nothing but rain and the thought of going somewhere tropical to bask in the sun is so very alluring!  I am now so jealous!!

If I had the chance, I would not hesitate to go away now.  Quite a few years ago, we went to Florida right around this time.  The weather was perfect in Florida and of course it rained a lot at home that week - so it ended up being the perfect time to go.  Just a few years ago, the Mississippi Gulf Coast was all the rage and we went to Gulfport/Biloxi two years in a row right around this time. The weather in Mississippi was just about perfect at this time of year.  The hotel there was one of the nicest I have ever been to. We have not been back since Katrina - mainly because there are not any direct flights from Toronto to Gulfport anymore.  I do plan on returning there someday - maybe I will have to drive!

No matter what time of year, travelling is always enticing to me, especially when there is a sandy beach involved.
